Pond Sample

In May of 2020, I collected 2 gallons of water, rocks, and sludge from the duck pond on Little Mountain in Vancouver. I observed and recorded the plant and animal life that emerged from this one pond sample over the course of a year. During that time, I added a 3D printed building, a clear plastic orb, concrete blocks, plastic drinking straws, microscope slides, a bit of stained glass, and a ping pong ball. This footage was edited to play during quiet times in a friend’s kindergarten class.

~90

I am incapable of playing a steady rhythm. This piece exploits this deficiency and helps to smooth the pulse through multiplication. I recorded around 90 takes at around 90 bpm, using stuff found lying around and combining the takes to create audio visual textures in which the sound and the image are quite literally one. There is no audio processing save the fades that are mirrored in the visuals.
